Metro 2039 Will Be Playable for the First Time at Gamescom 2026!

Hello, stalkers!

A new official Deep Silver newsletter arrived on July 16 — and this time, the publisher shared some genuinely important news.

🎮 Metro 2039 Is Coming to Gamescom 2026

The game will be presented at the exhibition in Cologne from August 27 to 30. Visitors will be able to find the Metro 2039 area in Hall 9.

But the most important part is not simply the game’s presence at the event.

Deep Silver explicitly states that fans will be able to explore the game’s world, scavenge for supplies, and try to survive for themselves for the very first time. In other words, this is expected to be the first public Metro 2039 demo where visitors will be able to play the game personally.

Until now, we have only seen trailers and edited gameplay footage. Gamescom visitors will now have an opportunity to experience Metro 2039 through actual hands-on gameplay.

🔥 Why Is This Important?

The first public demo could provide us with far more information than a regular trailer:

• real impressions of the controls and gunplay;
• details about the stealth and survival systems;
• level design and location exploration;
• how the gas mask, filters, and other classic mechanics work;
• new footage, interviews, and developer comments;
• possible details about the Stranger, Hunter, and the New Reich.

Naturally, we still do not know which part of the game will be shown, how long the demo will last, or whether visitors will be allowed to record gameplay footage.

⚠️ An Important Clarification

The newsletter does not contain a new trailer.

Deep Silver simply highlighted the Hunter trailer again, in which Hunter is presented as the new Führer who seized control of the Metro through lies and propaganda. Therefore, the main news from the newsletter is the upcoming public gameplay demo at Gamescom, not any new story details.

The publisher continues to describe Metro 2039 as “the darkest METRO yet.” Judging by the material shown so far, the game really does appear to be returning to claustrophobic tunnels, stealth, scarce resources, and the oppressive atmosphere of the earlier games.

📅 In Brief:

• event: Gamescom 2026;
• presentation dates: August 27–30;
• location: Cologne, Germany;
• hall: Hall 9;
• main news: visitors will be able to play Metro 2039 for the first time.

We will be closely following the exhibition, collecting impressions from visitors, and analyzing all the new material.

Perhaps by the end of August, we will finally learn whether the new developers have managed to bring back that same dark and dangerous Metro atmosphere.
