🎮 New Metro 2039 Trailer: Sevastopolskaya, New Survival Tools and the Voices of the Dark Ones

A brand-new Renegade Gameplay Trailer for Metro 2039 was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live.

This time, 4A Games focused on The Stranger and showed considerably more actual gameplay — including exploration of the Metro and the surface, combat, mutants, and several new gameplay mechanics.

🔥 What did the trailer reveal?

The Stranger is far from a traditional hero

Despite wearing Spartan armor, The Stranger has little interest in becoming the savior of the Metro.

He is pursuing his own mysterious objective and appears willing to go through anyone or anything standing between him and his goal.

Exactly what he is searching for remains a secret for now.

🚇 Our first look at Sevastopolskaya

One of the important locations in Metro 2039 will be Sevastopolskaya station.

The station remains proudly independent, but is now on the verge of a hostile takeover.

Agitators, propaganda and alcohol are destabilizing it from within, while mercenary Raiders working for the Novoreich apply pressure from the outside.

It is here that The Stranger will uncover crucial information about his target and prepare for the journey ahead.

☢️ More of Moscow's surface

The trailer features an extended look at the ruined surface of Moscow, including abandoned residential areas, playgrounds, corpses, and overgrown ruins.

The classic survival elements are still present, including the gas mask, filter management and the constant threat of radiation.

🔫 Shatun — a powerful pneumatic rifle

The trailer once again showcases Metro 2039's new signature weapon — the Shatun.

It is an extremely powerful pneumatic rifle that must be manually pumped to maintain its effectiveness.

The trailer clearly shows The Stranger pressurizing the weapon before continuing his journey.

🧱 New ways to create alternative routes

Two new tools were shown:

Breaching Tool — capable of breaking through certain weak walls;
Cutting Torch — used to cut through doors that have been welded shut.

These are more than scripted interactions.

4A Games confirms that these tools can be used to open alternative routes, discover secret caches and uncover additional environmental stories.

🔦 A new UV light

Ultraviolet light now has several gameplay functions.

It can:

• reveal hidden mutants;
• repel the new flying Insectalis creatures;
• expose hidden codes;
• help solve certain puzzles.

The trailer also shows the UV light being used while exploring dark interior areas.

👤 And the biggest mystery — the Dark Ones

Near the end of the trailer, the Fuhrer's propaganda can once again be heard calling for the destruction of the enemy.

But another set of voices begins to join him:

the Dark Ones.

Deep Silver specifically highlights this moment, but does not explain what it means.

Whether the Dark Ones are directly involved in the events of Metro 2039, connected to The Stranger's visions, or represent something else entirely remains unknown.

📅 Release

Metro 2039 is still scheduled for February 2027 on:

• PlayStation 5;
• Xbox Series X|S;
• PC.

This trailer finally gives us a clearer idea not only of the game's atmosphere and story, but of how exploration itself will work.

With tools for creating new paths, hidden caches, UV mechanics and the return of classic survival systems, it looks like exploration will once again play a major role in Metro 2039.

And for now, the voices heard at the very end leave us with the trailer's biggest question:

What role will the Dark Ones play in Metro 2039?
