The events of Metro 2039 take place a quarter of a century after the nuclear apocalypse. The fractured factions of the Moscow metro have finally united, but the cost was devastating. The fan-favorite and fanatical Spartan, Hunter, has seized power. Under his iron-fisted rule, the underground has morphed into a totalitarian state fueled by constant terror, aggressive propaganda, and preparation for an all-out war to reclaim the surface.

The narrative will center around a "Mysterious Stranger." For a long time, he lived as a hermit far from the ruins of Moscow, fleeing from the brutal nightmares that torment him. However, circumstances force him out of his safe haven, driving him back down into the hellish depths of the capital's subway system—a place he desperately tried to leave behind.

As for the gameplay, the developers are sticking to their proven formula. Players can expect a classic, story-driven single-player shooter. The core mechanics will remain heavily focused on hardcore survival, stealth, and intense combat in a deadly world.
